3 Way Conferences

Learning Conferences are next week on Monday 31 March and Tuesday 1 April. Children must be present at the conference giving them the opportunity to share their learning goals with you. Bookings will be made through the school app and we will let you know when they are ready to be made. In the meantime please make sure you have downloaded the app.
Each conference is for 10 minutes we ask everyone to respect this time limit. If you reach the end of the ten minutes and need more time the teacher will arrange an appointment at a later date. Conferences are for sharing learning goals, if you wish to discuss other aspects of school life please arrange another meeting with the class teacher.
I will be supervising any siblings waiting in the library while their brothers or sisters are having their conference.

Missing Polar Fleeces
There are a number of children with missing polar fleeces. Could everyone please kindly check to ensure their child has not accidently brought another child’s fleece home with them.
Please ensure that all fleeces are clearly named so we can easily identify and return them, if the collar label is not useable, you are able to write on the back of the school emblem inside the fleece.
Brooklyn Library Visits
This term we will resume our termly visits to Brooklyn Library. If your child wishes to borrow a book during the visit they need to bring their personal library card with them. We will return books on the next visit if they are brought back in time. Books not brought on the day of the visit will need to be returned by yourselves. If you would like to leave your child's card in the classroom between visits then teachers will find a safe place to keep them.
Room 2: 27 March
Absences
If your child is sick or unable to attend school for all or part of the day, please either send a notification via the school app (skool loop), email the school office on office@stbernards.school.nz or phone 3899377 by 9.00 a.m. so that your child's absence can be accounted for.
Children who are late need to report to the office in case they have been marked absent by the teacher who takes the roll first thing in the morning.
If an absence is planned for a special reason, a note or telephone call to the school in advance is appreciated. In cases of prolonged absence, e.g. a family trip, a written note is required.
Room 2 Learning
Room 2 has been learning all about the fun and creative world of letter writing! Students have been practising how to write friendly letters, including all the important parts such as the greeting, body, and closing. We’ve also talked about why letter writing is such a wonderful way to communicate and share thoughts with friends, family, and even new pen pals!
We’ve also had a great time with Harold the Giraffe, learning all about diversity and how each of us is unique.

Year 6 Rotary Blade Designs: Part 2
Last Friday the Year 6s continued their work on creating and testing rotary blade designs, this time using light card. They began with a two- blade rotatory design, which flew quite well after some weight was added to the base. Next they tackled the multi-blade rotary design, which proved to be more challenging. Although the light cardboard provided some initial weight against the breeze, the design required further testing. It was time to experiment and look for ways to modify their designs.
The children added folded paper strips underneath each blade, as well as paper clips and pins to help add weight to the base. The testing produced varied results; however most of the multi-blade designs did rotated successfully.
The Yr 6s followed the scientific process of
Asking a question:
- What will I need to do to create the most efficient rotary blade design?
Creating a hypothesis:
- My rotary blade design will be successful with these modifications - pins, paper clips, and strips of paper.
Testing their hypothesis:
- Testing their designs by dropping them off the balcony, testing a different modification each time.
Drawing a conclusion:
- Evaluating their testing - did my rotary blade spin effectively - did my modifications work?
The Yr 6s really enjoyed the rotary blade design activity and are looking forward to creating and building more projects on future Fridays.

Wellington Phoenix Experience Camp
We are excited to announce we are hosting another Wellington Phoenix Experience camp in Wellington at Fraser Park during the April School holidays. This camp will take place on the 17th & 18th of April between 9am and 3pm and is targeted for children born between 2011 – 2016.
Our Experience Camps provide a unique opportunity for us to engage with young football enthusiasts from diverse communities across New Zealand. It serves as a platform for local talents to interact with Wellington Phoenix Staff, offering from a glimpse into the life of New Zealand’s sole professional football academy. Moreover, it marks the initial step in our talent identification process. Promising players identified during these camps may be invited to join a Discovery Camp later in the year. Additionally, we will be conducting coaching and parent workshops aimed at fostering growth within football communities and bridging the gap between grassroots and academy-level football.
