Term 1 Week 2
Principal's Message

It was so lovely to see so many smiling faces at school last week, everyone happy to be here and to see their friends again. As usual, the children made me very proud in the way they showed our value of hospitality in the way they welcomed our new students, Kat, Cole, Daisy and Mnqobi.

Welcome to St Bernard's School

A big St Bernard's welcome to Mnqobi and his family. Mnqobi started last Friday in Room 2, we hope he had a great start to school.
Missing Polar Fleeces
There are a number of children with missing polar fleeces. Could everyone please check to ensure their child has not accidently brought another child’s fleece home with them, and that all fleeces are clearly named so we can easily identify and return them. Thank you.
Brooklyn Library Visits
This term we will resume our termly visits to Brooklyn Library. If your child wishes to borrow a book during the visit they need to bring their personal library card with them. We will return books on the next visit if they are brought back in time. Books not brought on the day of the visit will need to be returned by yourselves. If you would like to leave your child's card in the classroom between visits then teachers will find a safe place to keep them.

Children who are late need to report to the office in case they have been marked absent by the teacher who takes the roll first thing in the morning.

Room 2 Learning
Welcome to term 1, 2025! Room 2 has been amazing at jumping back into school life. We've focused on getting used to our normal school routines, as well as learning to be focused, responsible, and kind to one another. We've also worked hard on our creativity by completing some beautiful artwork this week. With Waitangi day last Thursday, we learned the meaning of a 'Treaty', along with some key understandings about New Zealand's commemoration of Waitangi Day. As part of our Treaty learning we read "The Tree Hut Treaty", by Wiremu Grace. This book talked about the concept of a Treaty in the context of a shared treehouse. Room 2 made their own treehouses and their own tree hut treaties to deepen their understanding of the meaning of a Treaty. Take a look at some of their beautiful and creative Treehouses:

Room 4 Learning
Last week, Room worked hard to create a class waka. The waka represents our class, with everyone rowing together in the same direction to make it flow smoothly. In 2025, we are all on a journey together, working together and using our St Bernard’s Mercy Values to make Room 4 the best class it can be. Our Mercy Values are: Whakarangatira - Respect, Manaakitanga - Hospitality, Ratonga - Service, Aroha - Compassion, Whai Tika - Social Justice and Hiranga - Excellence.
The children have also completed their own individual wakas that represent the journey they are on in their learning and as tukana of St Bernard’s.
