Term 2 Week 1
Principal's Message
Welcome back for the start of Term 2. Teachers have a great term of learning planned for the children.
PE this term will be a mix of cross-country and basketball, coached by Capital Basketball. There will be a school cross-country event in Week 5.
Class programmes will include learning about ANZAC and Marariki.
We will have a biology focus in science and also welcome the Life Education service in Week 4.
Year 6-8 will continue their weekly guitar lessons with Emily.
During their intermediate programme afternoon our seniors will be choosing from creative writing, Science Badges and creating a website.
Mrs Harper will have a music focus to her weekly art sessions with each class.
On Wednesday 3rd of July at 2pm we will hold a Celebration of Learning where children will share all they have learnt through the term.
We will once again have a culture of the frtnight which we will focus on. Teachers will get in touch to see if you can help with this when it is your turn.
Dates
Please note there will be teacher only days on Friday 31st of May and Friday 5th of July.
Uniform
Please ensure all items of your child's uniform are labelled with their names. Polar fleeces in particular are misplaced because they are removed when children get hot. Children often say that their's is the one with a red label or with no label but unfortunately there are a lot like that so names are very important.
As the temperatures get colder, children may were a thermal underneath their polo shirt. These must be black please.

- Children who wear glasses and/or are under professional care and have regular checks will not require a vision check from our service.
Non-consent – please notify your school if you do not want your child being screened.
Brooklyn Library Visits
This term we will resume our termly visits to Brooklyn Library. If your child wishes to borrow a book during the visit they need to bring their personal library card with them. We will return books on the next visit if they are brought back in time. Books not brought on the day of the visit will need to be returned by yourselves. If you would like to leave your child's card in the classroom between visits then teachers will find a safe place to keep them.

Room 2: 29 May 19 June

Absences
If your child is sick or unable to attend school for all or part of the day, please either send a notification via the school app (skool loop), email the school office on office@stbernards.school.nz or phone 3899377 by 9.00 a.m. so that your child's absence can be accounted for.
Children who are late need to report to the office in case they have been marked absent by the teacher who takes the roll first thing in the morning.
If an absence is planned for a special reason, a note or telephone call to the school in advance is appreciated. In cases of prolonged absence, e.g. a family trip, a written note is required.
