Brooklyn Library Visits
This term we will resume our termly visits to Brooklyn Library. If your child wishes to borrow a book during the visit they need to bring their personal library card with them. We will return books on the next visit if they are brought back in time. Books not brought on the day of the visit will need to be returned by yourselves. If you would like to leave your child's card in the classroom between visits then teachers will find a safe place to keep them.

Absences
If your child is sick or unable to attend school for all or part of the day, please either send a notification via the school app (skool loop), email the school office on office@stbernards.school.nz or phone 3899377 by 9.00 a.m. so that your child's absence can be accounted for.
Children who are late need to report to the office in case they have been marked absent by the teacher who takes the roll first thing in the morning.
If an absence is planned for a special reason, a note or telephone call to the school in advance is appreciated. In cases of prolonged absence, e.g. a family trip, a written note is required.
Room 1 Learning
Last Wednesday Mrs Williams taught Room 1. They read the story, "The Rainbow Fish', talked about being good friends and created an amazing display.
Room 2 Learning
This week Room 2 has enjoyed visiting Brooklyn Library.
We have also started our report writing projects about sea life in Wellington. The class have each chosen a sea creature that lives in the Wellington harbour and will write their own informative report on this sea creature. After visiting the Marine Education Centre in Island Bay, we thought it was a good idea to theme our writing project on something that we have recently encountered. Here are some photos of our learning this week.
Room 4 Learning
Last Week, Room 4 worked on an activity from the 'Big Blue Future' science kit. The activity focused on sea turtle identification using a dichotomous key. The children worked in small groups and had 8 turtle models to identify and classify. They used the dichotomous key and an 'Anatomy of a Sea Turtle' poster to help with sea turtle classification. The poster also contained facts about why sea turtles are important for the health of the world's oceans. The groups examined each turtle model closely using the dichotomous key to find the name and gender type of each turtle. It was a positive learning experience as the children practiced classifying and grouping species according to their features - which is also an important part of science work.
