Term 3 Week 1
Principal's Message
For our teacher only day at the end of Term 2, we joined the 12 other Catholic schools from our kāhui ako, at St Patrick's College. We heard from the key note speaker, Dr Melinda Webber, who specialises in Māori identity and the impact race, ethnicity and culture has on all learners, not just Māori learners. Each of us attended different workshops - Universal Design for Learning (developing flexible learning environments for all learners), Art in the Classroom (lots of good ideas we can use), Year 9 Maths (some good tips for preparing our children for college), Play Based Learning. Mr Small was the compere for the day and did a fabulous job, rewarded with some Phoenix merchandise. At the end of the day we all took part in a session teaching us how to perform sasa, a pasifka dance form.
Lisa Small,
Principal

Lost Balls
A reminder that our neighbour will return any lost balls on a Friday. Please do not enter the property without permission, particularly now that they have a dog, or knock on their door during the day as one of the ladies works nights.
Absences
If your child is sick or unable to attend school for all or part of the day, please either send a notification via the school app (skool loop), email the school office on office@stbernards.school.nz or phone 3899377 by 9.00 a.m. so that your child's absence can be accounted for.
Children who are late need to report to the office in case they have been marked absent by the teacher who takes the roll first thing in the morning.
If an absence is planned for a special reason, a note or telephone call to the school in advance is appreciated. In cases of prolonged absence, e.g. a family trip, a written note is required.
School Photos
Our school photos are being taken this Thursday 20 July at 9am.
We will once again be doing online orders. Photolife will email each parent with a shoot key code and instructions a couple of weeks after the photos have been taken to enable on line orders.
If you would like a sibling photo please sign the permission slip here or please get a form from Katrina. Photolife will not take a sibling photo without a signed slip.
Please make sure your child is in full uniform and wearing the correct shoes on photo day. Thank you.
Basketball Coaching
This term, our PE sessions will have a basketball focus, coached by Capital Basketball. Please ensure your child wears their PE uniform and sports shoes every Friday.
Brooklyn Library Visits
This term we will resume our termly visits to Brooklyn Library. If your child wishes to borrow a book during the visit they need to bring their personal library card with them. We will return books on the next visit if they are brought back in time. Books not brought on the day of the visit will need to be returned by yourselves. If you would like to leave your child's card in the classroom between visits then teachers will find a safe place to keep them.

Celebration of Learning
It was so lovely to see so many families at our Celebration of Learning last term. I am sure you were just as proud of your children and their learning as we were.
