School Admin
Teacher Only Day
A Reminder we have a teacher only day this Friday June 30, so term 2 will finish on Thursday June 29 after the Celebration of Learning.
Lost Balls
A reminder that our neighbour will return any lost balls on a Friday. Please do not enter the property without permission, particularly now that they have a dog, or knock on their door during the day as one of the ladies works nights.
Absences
If your child is sick or unable to attend school for all or part of the day, please either send a notification via the school app (skool loop), email the school office on office@stbernards.school.nz or phone 3899377 by 9.00 a.m. so that your child's absence can be accounted for.
Children who are late need to report to the office in case they have been marked absent by the teacher who takes the roll first thing in the morning.
If an absence is planned for a special reason, a note or telephone call to the school in advance is appreciated. In cases of prolonged absence, e.g. a family trip, a written note is required.
Dental Nurse Visit
The schools’ dental nurse will be onsite this week from tomorrow Tuesday 27 in their mobile van, and examinations will continue for the next couple of days.
If further treatment is required your child will be given a notice to bring home. Please ask your children about their visit and check to see if they have brought any information home.
Celebration of Learning

This Thursday June 29 at 2pm in the hall we are holding our Celebration of Learning. Each class will share what they have learnt during the term. We will also be treated to performances showing the learning the children have done with Mrs Harper during arts classes. Our year 6-8 students will also show off their newly acquired guitar skills. We will then head back to classes for you to have some one on one time with your children.
Anyone is welcome to join us- mums, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, au pairs, etc.
School Photos
Our school photos are being taken on Thursday 20 July at 9am. (First week of Term 3)
We will once again be doing online orders. Photolife will email each parent with a shoot key code and instructions a couple of weeks after the photos have been taken to enable on line orders.
If you would like a sibling photo please sign the permission slip attached here or please get a form from Katrina.
Photolife will not take a sibling photo without a signed slip. Please see Katrina for spare forms.
Please make sure your child is in full uniform and wearing the correct shoes on photo day. Thank you.
YCC Fundraiser

A big thankyou to everyone for their generous support of the YCC fundraiser for Oecusse School in Timor Leste last Friday. We raised $125.50!
Room 1 Learning
In maths we have started looking at different types of patterns and noticing patterns that repeat.
We tried making up our own pattern and then repeating it. We also made them really colourful!
We have the Countdown Lego set up on the round table and the children are enjoying creating different set ups and all playing together. So many interesting conversations!!

Room 2 Learning
It is hard to believe we are in the last week of Term 2! The students had another busy week in Room 2. Year 4 & Year 5 students started the week on Monday at a "Sports Fest" at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre, Kilbirnie, run by Wellington East Girls College students. Cosima, Quinn and Joshua received participation certificates for their attitude and efforts. Tumeke!
On Wednesday we celebrated our Class Mass. Daniel proclaimed the Word, Quinn led us in the Responsorial Psalm and Saskia, Sammy, Kate, Blake, Inigo and Lea read the Prayers of the Faithful. Well done, everyone, beautifully read.

For strand maths the students have been learning about perimeter and area. They were set a wero/challenge to create a Piet Mondrian art inspired picture including two rectangles that have the same area but different perimeter. Extra for experts: include two rectangles that have the same perimeter but different areas.
Mrs Small taught the class on Thursday. I left a S.T.E.M. challenge for the students. They had to create a 'seaworthy' vessel out of natural resources found outside. S.T.E.M. challenges really support collaborative action, creative thinking and perseverance. Great effort, everyone!

Room 4 Learning
It was a busy week for Room 4 as Monday started with the Winter Sports Fest event run by Year 12 students from East Girls' College. The event was held at Akau Tangi (ASB Centre in Kilbirnie) and St Bernard's year 4-8 students attended the event with three other schools from the Central Zone sports we belong to. The children competed in different team games and challenges including a bucket tower building relay and dodgeball. Congtaulations to Cosima, Quinn and Joshua who won certifcates for their sportsmanship.
Room 4 is also working hard to be ready for our Celebration of Learning assembly this Thursday. As part of our learning around ANZAC Day the children coloured Te Reo poppies - which are now proudly displayed in the hall. Room 4 will be sharing lots of their learning about this part of our New Zealand history on Thursday.

This week Room 4 is busy working on Matariki activities, reading about Matariki, researching and presenting information. Below is Erin's poster slide about Matariki.
