Sun Hats

A reminder we are a sun smart school, so all children must have a school sunhat at school each day in Term 4 regardless of the weather.
Room 1 Learning
As the term comes to an end we have been busy putting the finishing touches to our projects that we have been working on. Our winter tree pencil drawings have been backed and are ready for display. We finished the ending of our creative story writing, and are publishing this week, our 3D construction is all ready for display, and we cant wait to share all this with you on Thursday!
On Friday, Mrs Harper's language group made delicious brownies.

Room 2 Learning
It was a busy Week 9 for Room 2. On Tuesday we visited the Brooklyn library. Many of our Year 3, 4 and 5 students attended the Futsal Tournament at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre on Wednesday. Mrs Harper ran her drama lesson with the class on Thursday. On Friday, we had our final basketball session with Coach Scott. In class we have been focused on painting our calendar art, publishing our 'Peace' writing and learning about 2D and 3D shapes in geometry. Our language of the fortnight is currently te reo Māori so we have incorporated it into our reading and writing programme as well as our day to day classroom responses.

Room 4 Learning
Last Thursday afternoon Room 4 completed their second Wonder Project of the year. With help and expert advice from Wonder Ambassador Dave Harper, the children worked in small groups to design windmill blades. The windmill blades were attached to model windmills and tested using a fan to provide wind power. Each group's windmill was connected to an electronic circuit board. The circuit board contained 8 lights, representing the buildings of a city. The aim was to design windmill blades that could create enough wind power to light up the city buildings. This was a fun but difficult challenge and the groups trialled different blade designs before settling on their final ones to test on Thursday.
Each group tested their final blade designs to see how many lights they could get to work on the circuit board. Each group could get 3 or 4 lights working consistently with one group getting 5 and a half lights to work. It was a fantastic Wonder Project and the children had plenty of time to test and modify their initial blade designs. A big thank you Dave Harper for coming into Room 4 for 5 afternoons this term. Dave provided lots of guidance and his considerable expertise to make the project a success. He even showed Room 4 one of his work projects he designed!
